WHAT IS HYPNOTISM?
Hypnosis is not magic. It is however an altered state of mind. It can be compared to “daydreaming” more than sleep since you are aware of your surroundings the entire time.
I am sure you are familiar movies life Star Wars where “the Force” seems like a kind of hypnotism. “Mesmerism” appears in many pop culture films and TV shows with characters like Dracula commanding victims to “look into my eyes!” But real hypnosis is nothing like that. You cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do under hypnosis.
HOW CAN IT HELP?
Hypnosis allows the hypnotist to access the subconscious mind. Sometimes referred to as Neural Linguistic Programming or NLP. This access allow the hypnotist to suggest changes to aspects of the clients subconscious to assist in bettering their conscious lives. It can be very hard to overcome stress, nervousness in public situations and and other sources of anxiety. Hypnosis can help with quitting smoking, talking in front of groups, changing eating habits for better health and much, much more!
ARE THERE ANY RISKS?
Really only from extremely poor hypnotists. I often consult a tenured psychologist (retired professor of psychology and a close friend actually) to improve my sessions with clients. I have been doing hypnosis for more than 20 years now and have never had a bad experience.
